APPLICATION QUALITY/PLANTABILITY PLOTS
Overview
TOOL DESCRIPTION
Plantability tests are running in the lab, with two types of seeds: one with good treatment (high quality industrial treatment), one with bad treatment (on farm).
To visualize obtained results in field we plant 2 plots with extra-high density, and right after the complete emergence, we remove plants untill the plant distribution in the plots gets similar to the plantability results
We signal the «skips» and the «doubles» with markers in each plot, to make them easier to see.
Best time to see the differences is 10 to 15 days after planting.
ALREADY ESTABLISHED FOR:
Soybean
HOW IT IS USED
- It is used to prove the benefits of good industrial seed treatment: the impact of better seed surface, improving the planting precision / accuracy
- We show calculations (based on scientific literature) of potential yield losses coming from the imperfect planting
QUICK FACTS
- FOCUS: APPLICATION QUALITY, IN FIELD
- COST: $$$ (labor intensive)
- TIME TO PRODUCE: 21 DAYS
- MOBILITY: plots are stationary, but can be reproduced in long flower pots, that would have some mobility
- LEVEL OF COMPLEXITY: HIGH
- ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: must be good for crop development
